Room Acoustics Matter Most

You can have the best gear in the world. If your room sounds bad, everything sounds bad.

Reflections are the enemy. Sound bounces off your walls, ceiling, and floor. Those reflections mix with the direct sound and create comb filtering. Certain frequencies cancel out. Others get boosted. Your mix will not translate anywhere else.

The fix is simple. Add absorption and diffusion. Panels on the first reflection points. Bass traps in the corners. A rug on a hard floor. Even a bookshelf full of books breaks up reflections.

Start behind your listening position. That wall causes the most problems. Put a thick panel there first. Then treat the side reflection points.
